Barham K. Abu Dayyeh, MD, MPH is an internationally recognized gastroenterologist, advanced endoscopist, and clinical innovator, widely regarded as a key opinion leader in interventional gastroenterology, bariatric and metabolic endoscopy, as well as device-driven therapeutic innovation. He brings deep clinical expertise in high-volume procedural environments and a distinguished track record of advancing technologies that improve patient safety, procedural efficiency, and clinical outcomes. He has extensive experience collaborating with industry to guide transformative solutions from early development through clinical validation and adoption, emphasizing scalable innovations that address critical gaps in procedural care delivery.
Dr. Abu Dayyeh currently serves in leadership roles at a leading academic medical center as Executive Director and Associate Dean for Innovation, Director of Interventional Gastroenterology, and Director of System Integration in Advanced Endoscopy, in addition to his role as Professor of Medicine. In these leadership positions, he drives strategic initiatives at the intersection of clinical care, technology, and health system transformation, including integrating advanced endoscopic platforms, robotics, and novel therapeutic modalities. His work reflects a deep passion for innovation, not only in developing new technologies but in ensuring their successful implementation and adoption within complex health systems.
Previously, he spent more than a decade at a premier academic medical institution, where he held numerous leadership roles, including Director of Advanced Endoscopy, Vice Chair of Innovation within the Department of Medicine, and Consultant in Gastroenterology. During his tenure, he was closely involved in advancing multiple device-based therapies and translational programs, while collaborating in an impressive innovation and commercialization initiative to move novel concepts from early development through clinical validation to broader adoption. His work exemplified his ability to bridge clinical medicine, research, and industry partnerships to accelerate meaningful innovation.
Dr. Abu Dayyeh’s academic training reflects a rigorous and highly respected pathway. He earned his MD from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, and pursued fellowships in gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He also earned a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. He subsequently completed advanced fellowship training in interventional and therapeutic endoscopy at a nationally recognized center, further solidifying his expertise in complex, minimally invasive GI procedures.
A prolific investigator, educator, and thought leader, he has authored a large body of peer-reviewed publications and has been widely recognized for his contributions to the field of advanced endoscopy and metabolic therapies. He has held leadership roles in multiple national and international professional societies, helping to shape future directions. He is also actively involved in major scientific and educational forums, including leadership and faculty roles in prominent endoscopy symposia.
As a Clinical Advisor to IDEATE Medical, Dr. Abu Dayyeh provides strategic guidance on the clinical integration and adoption of next-generation endoscope sterilization technologies.
